Compare up to 5 hop varieties' aroma profile (0–5 scale, nine categories) and brewing parameters (alpha/beta/oil/cohumulone/β:α ratio, normalized 0–10) in two spider charts. There are 219 hop varieties in the database, of which 182 have a registered aroma profile (the rest only have data for the brewing-parameter chart).
Data and concept are based on HopDatabase by Kasper Andreas Rømer Grøntved (MIT license) — the code itself has been rewritten from React to Python/Django.
Advanced classifications:
Based on modern hop chemistry. Super-alpha (≥11% alpha acid), high alpha (8-11%), noble/aroma (≤3% alpha acid + low oil content), modern aroma (≤5% alpha acid + high oil content).
Cohumulone effect:
High (>34%) typically yields 15-25% more IBUs than predicted. Low (<25%) typically yields fewer IBUs.
β:α ratio:
Indicates storage stability. ≥0.8 = stable, ≥0.9 = may develop a pleasant aged character.
